ALEXANDRIA , Va. No.151 The American Association for Homecare (AAHomecare) announced that Mal Mixon, Invacare’s chairman and CEO, will receive the Humanitarian of the Year award at this year’s AAHomecare Humanitarian Dinner.
“After spending many personal hours, days, weeks, and years locked in battle against my own government, it is very gratifying to have my customers recognize Invacare for the effort we are giving to the cause of home care,” said Mixon about the award. “In fact, it makes me even more determined to eventually obtain
proper recognition and justice for the home care industry.”
Tom Ryan, AAHomecare’s chairman and CEO of Homecare Concepts, cited Mixon’s continuing support for humanitarian efforts for home care and his lengthy service as a champion of strong home care policy. Specifically, Ryan mentioned the key role Invacare in helping to prevent greater damage to the home oxygen benefit during the House-Senate conference on the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005.
The annual Humanitarian Dinner is set for Sept. 19 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis during Medtrade. The recipients of the funds raised at this year’s dinner will be home care patients’ organizations, including several that serve the oxygen/respiratory and rehab communities.
“The Humanitarian Dinner underscores our industry’s deep commitment to millions of patients across the (United States) who depend on home care,” said Ryan.
Last year, the dinner raised $75,000 for home care organizations in the Gulf region that were devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
