To help providers explore new market opportunities, this year’s edition of the Medtrade conference and exposition has unveiled a “Niche Markets” education track, which comprises six sessions.
Slated for October 20-23 at Atlanta’s Georgia World Congress Center, Medtrade is targeting the sessions both to providers that might explore DME market niches as a side business or perhaps a main business focus. The niche markets examined by the sessions include home modifications; therapeutic footwear; ventilation services; support surfaces; home accessibility; and home evaluation and aging in place.
The sessions are:
- “Home Modifications — Essentials for Success.” This will provide an in depth look at what presenter Bill Stelzer, coach and owner of Bill Stelzer Consulting, and of the Accessible Homes Institute of America, calls the “Four Essential Aspects of Marketing for Success” in the home access marketplace.
- “Integrating Modern Therapeutic Shoes into a Comprehensive Treatment Plan for Diabetes Patients” will explain how a clinician can recognize and assess who may benefit from therapeutic shoes or foot orthoses. This will be presented by Dennis Janisse, CEO and president of National Pedorthic Services Inc.
- “Is Your HME Company Providing Quality Ventilation Services?” will examine how more and more companies are providing noninvasive and invasive ventilation to their patients. Presenter Susean Nichols, president of Millennium Management Services, asks, “is your home ventilator program providing value while reducing your risk?”
- “They’re not Mystery Ulcers – They’re Pressure Ulcers: How to Sell More Support Surfaces” asks the question, why isn’t every seated dependent client sitting and sleeping on a pressure redistributing support surface? Presenter Karen Lerner, regional vice president of Drive Medical will outline how a thorough inquiry should incorporate acute and long term care, hospice, rehab and home health perspectives as it relates to DME and rehab practitioners.
- Dave Henderson, senior marketing analyst for EZ-Access will present “Avoid Pitfalls and Develop a Profitable Home Accessibility Business,” which will give a comprehensive overview of the key components to developing a successful home accessibility business.
- “There Really Is no Place like Home: Evaluation, Equipment and Options for Aging In Place” will provide evaluation ideas and solutions, as well as product solutions, to help family caregivers assist elderly family members to live and age safely at home. The session will be presented by Kay Koch, OTR/L, ATP, ad Rehab Clinical Education Manager for Invacare Corp.
