Sunrise Medical recently named the latest recipients of its Propel Donation Program, which supports the DME maker’s mission of “improving people’s lives,” by assisting to end users who may not have access to complex rehab products and technology.
Each quarter, the Propel Donation Committee selects one or more individuals to receive product donations.
“Once our recipients have been selected, we work with their local supplier and ATP to custom configure the product that best complements and enhances the lifestyle of that individual,” explains Kristyn Campbell, Marketing Manager, Sunrise Medical.
Brandon Holiday of New Jersey, the first recipient, works to provide opportunities to individuals with disabilities through adaptive sports. Having undergone a below-knee amputation and being diagnosed with systematic lupus and Addison’s disease, Holiday currently uses a Quickie 2 ultra lightweight folding wheelchair. Though Brandon was granted funding for his wheelchair, he was denied reimbursement for seating products. Discomfort from a lack of proper seating limited the length of time Brandon was able to utilize his wheelchair throughout the day.
Holiday worked with ATP Curtis Boyer of Numotion (Hatfield, Pa.), who worked with Curtis to select a JAY Lite cushion with a solid insert for additional stability and a shoulder height, JAY J3 back with posterior and lateral thoracic support. Brandon’s new seating has helped him remain comfortable in his Quickie 2 for longer periods of time, increasing his independence and range of mobility.
The second Propel recipient, Dogsong Animal Training and Behavior, located in Dillon, Colo., received a Quickie Q7 and QM-710. Dogsong Animal Training and Behavior uses the Q7 and QM-710 for service dog training. The Q7 and QM-710 allow each dog to spend a significant amount of time working with their trainer while using a wheelchair.
“Our dogs bridge a gap for our clients who depend on their service dog for assistance in all aspects of their impairment, and provide a vehicle to socially connect,” said trainer Lyn Manton Krueger. “It is critical that the dog is comfortable doing all their tasks with their handler in the chair.”
