The National Home Infusion Foundation (NHIF) has awarded the 2022 Outstanding Abstract Achievement Award (OAAA) to Cheyenne D. Johnson, PharmD from Lincoln, Neb.-based Option Care Health.
The OAAA recognizes and individual that presents a poster during the National Home Infusion Association’s (NHIA) Annual Conference on a relevant home and specialty infusion topic, examine an innovative approach to clinical practice, identify an opportunity or best practice, or demonstrate quality improvement within the home and specialty infusion industry.
Five finalists for the award shared their posters during a live session at NHIA’s 2022 Annual Conference on March 14.
Johnson, a pharmacy resident at Option Care Health, received the award for her poster titled, “An Investigation on Empiric Vancomycin Dose Reduction in Home Infusion Patients to Optimize Patient Safety,” which examined whether empirically reducing vancomycin correlates with decreased incidence of acute kidney injury as patients transition from acute care to home infusion therapy.
As the winner, Johnson will receive a $1,000 scholarship, an opportunity to develop her findings into a manuscript for publication.
“Congratulations to Johnson and all those who competed for this prestigious award; their commitment to advancing home and specialty infusion clinical practice through research and patient case presentation is commendable,” said NHIF Board Chair David Franklin, MSA. “It is exciting to see the innovative topics and findings presented through this program this year, and how this research contributes to advancing the home and specialty infusion profession.”
NHIF also acknowledged this year’s Honorable Mention, Jake Burkhalter, PharmD, a pharmacy resident at Chartwell, Pa., for his poster titled, “Utility of Olive Oil Based Lipid Emulsion as an Alternative Fatty Acid Source in Parenteral Nutrition Patients.”
