For the first time, Abilities Expo/Texas will be held in San Antonio. The three-day show, dedicated to educating and improving the lives of people with disabilities, senior citizens, their families & caregivers, as well as health care and education professionals, will take place at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center from Friday, Jan. 26 and continue through Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007.
The show for independent and assisted living products and services will offer several new and exciting feature areas. Attendees will have the chance to watch performances by The Inflight Dance Company (www.inflightdance.com), a mixed ability dance company that integrates able-bodied dancers with wheelchair dancers. In addition, the San Antonio Parks & Recreation Department in partnership with Blaze Sports will sponsor fencing, volleyball, kids games (for 6-year-olds) and power soccer demonstrations throughout the show. The United States K9 Academy (www.us-k9.com) will featue=re dogs for every disability and Super Duper Inc., publishers of fun educational materials (www.superduperinc.com) will raffle off five door prizes during kids day Saturday, Jan. 27.
Attendees will have a chance to discover and learn about new products and services — from computers to athletic equipment and mobility products to daily living aids — all conveniently displayed to see, test and compare. Exhibiting companies include National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center, American Association of Intensive Pediatric Physical Therapy and many local organizations, including the San Antonio Parks & Recreation Department.
The educational curriculum focuses on relevant topics addressing life today for individuals with disabilities, their family and caregivers. The comprehensive workshop programs will consist of consumer and professional tracks, with certificates of participation available to students and education and health care professionals.
Special show services will be available for attendees, including complimentary wheelchair repair provided by Hands on Concepts. Loaner wheelchairs will be provided by Permobil and 1st Mobility.
