Wheelchair lift and stairlift maker Harmar will kick off its partnership with charity Wheelchairs 4 Kids by donating a wheelchair lift to a 13-year-old boy named Gregory and his family.
Gregory has muscular dystrophy and uses a power chair. His family has no way to transport the chair, until Sept. 1, when Harmar will make its donation. Provider 101 Mobility of Sarasota, Fla. will install the lift during the Sept. 1 presentation and celebration.
The lift will give Gregory increased independence and the ability to socialize with friends.
A statement from Harmar said the company chose Wheelchairs 4 Kids as its “charity of choice,” and has signed a partnership agreement that greatly reduces the cost of the lifts and encourages its dealers to donate installations. The company also committed to sponsoring events and being a key supporter of Wheelchairs 4 Kids in various ways, including cause-marketing campaigns.
“We have been searching and hoping to find a solution to the problems that so many of our families face when it comes to transporting their children’s chairs. This is a prayer that has been answered,” Madeline Robinson, executive director of Wheelchairs 4 Kids, said. “Harmar has gone far and above anything we could have hoped for.”
