Consumers looking for an easily transportable power wheelchair now have another option.
Sunrise Medical has launched the QUICKIE Q50 R Carbon, a folding power chair with a transport weight of just 32 lbs., according to the manufacturer’s March 4 news announcement.
Sunrise called the Q50 R Carbon “QUICKIE’s lightest folding power wheelchair” and “easy to transport, store, and maneuver, providing the perfect solution for people who want to remain active and independent without the burden of a heavy and large mobility device.”
The Q50 R Carbon’s carbon fiber frame, magnesium wheels and motors, and breathable upholstery create a lightweight chair that still has a rider weight capacity of 300 lbs.
The seat is 17 inches wide and 16.5 inches deep, with a back height of 18 inches. The Q50 R Carbon measures 22.4 inches wide, both folded and unfolded, and measures 36.3 inches long (30.2 inches when folded).
The dual-battery design provides a range of up to 15 miles per charge, while high-torque 250w brushless magnesium cast motors can navigate a range of indoor surfaces as well as bumps in outdoor pavement. Riders can choose from five accent colors.
When folded for storage or transport, the Q50 R Carbon can be set upright on its anti-tips. Its compact footprint makes the chair easier to fit into small car trunks and other tight spaces. A standard transport strap keeps the chair folded while it’s being handled.
Accessories and options include a lap belt, an under-seat storage bag, a cupholder, rear running lights, a depth-adjustable joystick mount, and flip-up footplate and armrests.
The Q50 R Carbon is not HCPCS coded for reimbursement. Its starting retail price is $3,595. The Q50 R Carbon is also approved by the International Air Transport Association.
