Quantum Rehab Donates Custom Power Chair

March 21, 2019 by Leila McNeill

Quantum Rehab recently donated a customized iLevel Power Chair to Adam Catlin, a Walmart employee with cerebral palsy who needed help negotiating his work.

Catlin was at risk of losing his position as a greeter at the Selinsgrove Walmart Supercenter in Pennsylvania when the store altered the job description to demand physical duties that Catlin was unable to perform.

Although Catlin’s store ultimately reassigned him as a self-checkout host, Quantum decided that Catlin still needed a better way to get around beyond what a specialized walker he had been using. While the walker helped Catlin achieve mobility, he was dragging one of his feet along the ground to the point of wearing through two pairs of shoes each month.

"It’s going to open up a whole new world for me," Catlin said.

"For the first time, Adam was able to go to the refrigerator himself, go outside by himself, and sit at the countertop bar to converse and eat with his family,” said Mike Dicello, a Quantum Rehab product specialist who has been working with Adam to get his chair. “iLevel’s 12 inches of power seat elevation while driving up to 4.5 miles per hour will give Adam independence.”

Quantum customized specifically for Catlin with Evolution Orange shrouds to represent his love for his favorite baseball team, the Baltimore Orioles.

“Adam has a great sense of humor,” Dicello added. “He wore his ‘Proud to be a Yankees hater’ Orioles shirt knowing I am a Yankees fan.”
