New Reports Detail Competitive Bidding MSAs

February 15, 2008 by HME Business

Market researchers The Weeks Group have released Strategic Reports by MSA, a set of reports designed to help providers plan their bids for round two of The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ competitive bidding.

The reports provide various pieces of data for each zip code in 69 of the 70 MSAs (New Orleans, La. Being the missing MSA). The zip code-level data includes:

  • Total estimated spending for DME.
  • Spending by Medicare.
  • Spending by all other payers.
  • Total population.
  • Population over age 65 in the zip code, and population under age 65.

The reports provide data sets for 2003 and 2007 for each zip code, and calculate the percent change.  Each zip code is identified with its county and city.

The reports also sort all the providers in an MSA by location as well as by company name, and show each company’s address, phone and product categories sold.

The Weeks Group says this data should help providers in those MSAs make more informed bids, size up their competitors, and identify market opportunities and challenges.
