Mass. HME Provider Tightens Focus on Hospice Market

June 13, 2019 by Kaitlyn DeHaven

After two decades of serving patients in Hanover, Mass. under the name Mass Bay Respiratory, the HME provider has rebranded as Mass Bay Medical Supplies in order to further its reach in the local hospice market.

The company has always provided products and services to hospice patients, families and caregivers, but aims to further communicate its offerings to that market via the rebranding.

Dianne Long and her husband started Mass Bay Respiratory in 1999. Mike Long, son of Dianne Long and co-owner of Mass Bay Medical Supplies, said the company started as a carrier service for other companies, but quickly realized it could provide its own services efficiently.

“We saw a need,” Mike Long said. “We were able to provide quick service to the customers, so we decided to branch out and provide the service ourselves.”

To meet the often urgent demands of hospice patients, Mass Bay Medical Supplies offers 24-hour accessibility and promises four-hour service as well as four-hour delivery, according to Mike Long.

“I love it because I’m able to help families in their time of need by getting equipment in their house,” he said. “That’s our biggest thing. We know that if you call on us, you need us right away.”

In terms of the types of HME that hospice patients need or want, son Long said that the most popular types are broad chairs, shower chairs, lift chairs, and commodes. Moreover, while the provider offers a wide range of offerings, the company will go as far as recommending another provider if Mass Bay doesn’t offer a specific item the patient wants.

And, while the company is rebranding to showcase its hospice products, it will still provide respiratory equipment.
