Invacare CEO Honored by Paralyzed Veterans

September 17, 2009 by HME Business

Invacare CEO Mal Mixon was honored with the Corporate Leadership Award from the Paralyzed Veterans of America. The award was presented to Mixon by General James Jones at the Paralyzed Veterans’ Sept. 16 Americana Gala at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.

The annual fundraising event both honors leaders who work to help the nation’s paralyzed veterans and their families and highlights the role that Paralyzed Veterans’ programs have in improving the quality of life for veterans with disabilities. The association works to ensure veterans benefits and healthcare are fully funded; barrier free environments for everyone; that wheelchair sports are mainstream; and that the scientific community is amply funded to strive for new treatments and cures.

In addition to Mixon, there were four other honorees at the event:

  • Former U.S. Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs Gordon H. Mansfield was awarded the  Outstanding Service to Veterans Award.
  • The American Institute of Architecture Students was awarded the Access Through Architecture Award.
  • U.S. Paralympics was honored with the Sports and Recreation Award.
  • Rep. Chet Edwards (D-Texas) won the Congressional Award.
