GE Healthcare has entered a distribution and technology collaboration agreement with Living Independently, which provides passive monitoring systems for seniors.

The agreement will see GE distribute and co-marketing Living Independently’s QuiteCare system, which uses wireless sensors to track senior’s daily activities, and alert caregivers to changes in behavioral patterns that might signal a health problem or emergency.

“Demographic changes such as the growing aging population present enormous healthcare challenges in the care of seniors and the management of chronic disease,” said Omar Ishrak, president and CEO of GE Healthcare’s Clinical Systems business, in a public statement. “… We see enormous potential in senior healthcare monitoring, and the combined talent of the two companies offers the potential to accelerate the development of the business.”

Both companies will use GE’s Global Research Center to advance work in clinical parameters and monitoring algorithms to help further the capabilities of remote patient monitoring and diagnostics.

The agreement will also see GE take a minority ownership stake in Living Independently.
