Fisher & Paykel Healthcare has launched F&P Solo Pillows, a low-profile mask that fits close to the faces of sleep apnea patients.
Paired with Fisher & Paykel’s AutoFit headgear, F&P Solo Pillows are designed to gently conform to the nose for an optimal, easily achieved fit.
In a Sept. 3 announcement, the manufacturer said sleep apnea patients simply stretch the AutoFit headgear to fit, secure the Solo Pillows mask under the nose, and adjust it into place with one touch.
The AutoLock technology built into F&P Solo Pillows then holds the mask in place while the patient sleeps. The mask can dynamically respond to movement during sleep. The AutoFit headgear’s design — with no conventional straps to undo and pull — reduces the danger overtightening the mask.
AutoFit headgear can be used with nasal or nasal pillows cushions “for patient comfort preference” and to improve business efficiencies for sleep equipment providers. The F&P Solo Nasal mask sits under the nose, while the Solo Nasal Pillows sit in and around the nose “for a gentle, stable feel.” Cushion types are sold separately.
Solo masks “may be suitable for new patients wanting a mask that is simple to use, as well as experienced PAP mask users wanting a comfortable and optimal fit,” Fisher & Paykel said on its product website. The manufacturer suggests that Solo masks could be a good match for patients who breathe freely through their noses; who want to use a minimal mask; who experience claustrophobia with other types of masks; and who like to change mask varieties.
Fisher & Paykel added that 93% of patients who tried Solo masks “rated their experience as simple or very simple,” while 95% of patients who trialed the masks were able to set the masks up without assistance.
The headgear comes in one size and can accommodate all cushion sizes. The nasal cushion comes in small, medium, large, and wide sizes. The nasal pillows come in small, medium, and large sizes.
