Drive Medical Canada Acquires Independent Needs Centre

December 11, 2009 by HME Business

U.S. HME manufacturer Drive Medical’s wholly-owned Canadian subsidiary, Drive Medical Canada Inc. has acquired Independent Needs Centre a Canadian manufacturer and distributor of aids to daily living products, patient aids, ambulatory assist products, bathroom safety products and other home health care products in Canada.

“The acquisition of Independent Needs will enhance our growing presence in Canada and expand our product offering and customer base in the Canadian marketplace,” said Harvey Diamond, Drive’s chairman of the board and CEO. “In addition, we look forward to distributing many of the products of Independent Needs into the U.S. marketplace.”

Independent Needs will continue to operate independently through its existing facility located in Markham, Ontario, from which it will continue to distribute its products throughout the Canadian market.

Ruth Mallin, the principal founder of Independent Needs, will continue to serve as the President of Independent Needs, which will operate as a division of Drive Canada. Drive says Drive Canada’s executive team, along with Ruth Mallin and the Independent Needs’ management team will collaborate on the development of new products for the Canadian and U.S. markets, along with new and improved packaging.

“I am confident that the addition of Ruth Mallin, who has significant operating experience in the healthcare industry, along with the entire management team of Independent Needs will contribute significantly to our long-term expansion program in Canada,” said Eric Paul, CEO of Drive Canada.
