Curtiss-Wright Introduces BLS50 Brushless Motor Controller for Scooters
The controller is compatible with a range of scooter models and top speeds.

October 2, 2025 by Laurie Watanabe

Curtiss-Wright’s new BLS50 brushless motor controller for scooters is “designed to deliver exceptional performance and reliability” today, but is prepared for future needs as well.

“The BLS50 sets a new benchmark in mobility with outstanding gradient performance, accommodating a wide range of user weights and scooter speeds to support a diverse array of scooter models,” Curtiss-Wright said in a Sept. 16 news announcement. “The BLS50 features a powerful 50 Arms current rating that delivers exceptional performance, efficiency and reliability for mobility scooters. Built on Curtiss-Wright’s extensive in-market knowledge and experience, the product has been independently certified to deliver unmatched safety, reliability and durability that can be inherently trusted.”

The new controller has an improved battery range algorithm to deliver better state-of-charge accuracy used in conjunction with lithium-ion batteries, “with programmable under- and over-voltage functions facilitating smooth control of mobility scooters in challenging situations,” Curtiss-Wright added. “It is also fitted with a Battery Management System (BMS) interface connector for future use, ensuring forward compatibility with advanced battery management requirements.”

Installing the BLS50 is facilitated “thanks to the BLS50’s compatibility with the current footprint and mounting dimensions of the industry-standard S45, enabling easy integration into existing scooter designs without requiring significant modifications to manufacturing processes,” the announcement said.

“The BLS50 represents the culmination of our 30-plus years of medical mobility industry leadership, delivering unmatched power with comprehensive regulatory compliance for today’s global mobility scooter market,” said Curtiss-Wright Director of Product Management Tom Walsh.
