COVID-19 Protocols, Practices Quickly Emerging in HME Industry

March 31, 2020 by David Kopf

Standard protocols and best practices for dealing with COVID-19 are starting to emerge across the HME industry, according to in-depth interviews with a wide spectrum of providers.

Ty Bello, president of HME sales and management consulting firm Team @Work, interviewed 22 HME providers of varying care categories and business models to uncover common responses to COVID-19 being implemented across the industry.

Bello then joined the latest episode of the HMEB Podcast, which was sponsored by PlayMaker Health, to discuss his qualitative survey. His research covered emerging COVID-19 protocols for all aspects of HME: sales; engaging with patients at the business and in the home; telehealth; deliveries; working with referral providers; and operations.

In the previous episode, Josh Parnes, president of national provider AdaptHealth, which provides a full range of HME supplies and services that includes in-home and portable Oxygen, ventilation and CPAP and BIPAP, outlined the various steps his business has taken to protect both patients and team members. He also explains why providers must convince Congress and CMS to protect patient access to oxygen equipment during COVID-19.

The HMEB Podcast examines essential news, trends, and developments, and interviews industry experts to find out how HME provider owners and operators can run efficient, profitable, and growing businesses with an eye on patient care. Make sure to subscribe on iTunes, Stitcher or Google Play, and start listening today!
