HME software maker Computers Unlimited, has appointed David Schaer as its president. Schaer has been with the company since 1995, holding positions in sales and new technology development management.
Computers Unlimited (CU) was founded in 1978 by Schaer’s father, Michael Schaer, with its roots in cylinder and inventory management software for the industrial welding supply HME industries.
After studying finance, operations and strategic management at Boston College, Schaer worked for in the New York office of a large Japanese bank. To further his industry knowledge, Schaer joined AWISCO, a New York-based welding and gases distributor as a purchasing agent. Schaer then came to work for CU as a salesperson, learning the business “from the ground up,” according to a CU statement.
The statement added Schaer advocates keeping a watchful eye on the market and the changing face of technology, and says that “if a company takes its eye off its market, it’s likely to get passed by.”
“We have to take care of the customer,” Schaer says. “They are the center of everything we do. The technology is almost secondary.”
