Competitive Bidding Round One Winners Analyzed

The HME Media Group recently analyzed all the winners of bids in round of competitive bidding. After compiling the winners, by product category, across all 10 MSAs into a spreadsheet (download here), we found the following (broken down by category):

Complex Rehabilitative Power Wheelchairs and Related Accessories
•    On average, seven providers per MSA won bids in this category, with the most providers winning in Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas (11) and Charlotte-Gastonia-Concord, N.C.-S.C. (10).
•    The big winners across MSAs were The SCOOTER Store, with regional representatives of this national chain winning bids in nine of the 10 MSAs; and ATG Designing Mobility (Cerritos, Calif.), which won bids in five of the 10 MSAs.
•    National Seating & Mobility, a national chain known for its treatment of rehab patients, won bids in only two MSAs.
•    There were no bid winners in San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Devices (CPAP), Respiratory Assist Device
•    On average, 22 providers per MSA won bids in this category, with the most providers winning in Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach, Fla. (36) and Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas (34).
•    The big winners across MSAs were Super Care (City of Industry, Calif.), which won bids in all 10 MSAs; Cardiosom (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; Carmel, Ind.; West Chester, Ohio), which won bids in nine of the 10 MSAs; American HomePatient (local branches), which won bids in eight of the 10 MSAs; Excel Respiratory Solutions (Winter Haven, Fla., which won bids in eight of the 10 MSAs; RX Stat (St. Petersburg, Fla.), which won bids in eight of the 10 MSAs; HEB Home Care (Hurst, Texas), which won bids in six of the 10 MSAs; and Lincare (local branches), which on bids in six of the 10 MSAs. Also, The SCOOTER Store (Boca Raton, Fla.) won a bid in San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

Enteral Nutrients, Equipment and Supplies
•    On average, 18 providers per MSA won bids in this category, with the most providers winning in Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach, Fla. (32) and Orlando, Fla. (24).
•    The big winners across MSAs were American HomePatient (local branches), which won bids in eight of the 10 MSAs; CareMax Medical Resources (Tampa, Fla. and some local branches), which won bids in eight of the 10 MSAs; Health Systems Services (Niagra Falls, N.Y.), which won bids in eight of the 10 MSAs; Navigator Health Management Solutions (Franklin, Tenn.), which won bids in seven of the 10 MSAs; and Provider Plus (St. Louis, Mo.) and local branches of The SCOOTER Store each won bids in four of the 10 MSAs.
•    There were no bid winners in San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

Hospital Beds and Related Supplies
•    On average, 28 providers per MSA won bids in this category, with the most providers winning in Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas (59) and Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach, Fla. (46).
•    The big winners across MSAs were American HomePatient (local branches), which won bids in eight of the 10 MSAs; Hill-Rom (regional branches), which won bids in eight of the 10 MSAs; Lynncore Med Group (Sherman, Texas), which won bids in four of the 10 MSAs; and The SCOOTER Store (local branches), which won bids in four of the 10 MSAs.
•    There were no bid winners in San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

Negative Pressure Wound Therapy Pumps and Related Supplies and Accessories
•    On average, 11 providers per MSA won bids in this category, with the most providers winning in Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach, Fla. (19), Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas (16) and Orlando, Fla. (15).
•    The big winners across MSAs were The SCOOTER Store (local branches), which won bids in eight of the 10 MSAs; CareMax Medical Resources (Tampa, Fla. and some local branches), which won bids in seven of the 10 MSAs; Apria Healthcare (local branches), which won bids in six of the 10 MSAs; and Galaxy Medical Products (Copley, Ohio), which won bids in six of the 10 MSAs.
•    There were no bid winners in Kansas City, Mo.-Ks. and San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

Oxygen Supplies and Equipment – Oxygen Accessories
•    On average, 29 providers per MSA won bids in this category, with the most providers winning in Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach, Fla. (48) and Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas (43).
•    The big winners across MSAs were Super Care (City of Industry, Calif.), which won bids in nine of the 10 MSAs; American HomePatient (local branches), which won bids in eight of the 10 MSAs; CareMax Medical Resources (Tampa, Fla. and some local branches), which won bids in eight of the 10 MSAs; Cardiosom (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; Carmel, Ind.; West Chester, Ohio), which won bids in seven of the 10 MSAs; HEB Home Care (Hurst, Texas), which won bids in six of the 10 MSAs; Home Medical Equipment of Fort (Richardson, Texas), which won bids in six of the 10 MSAs; and The SCOOTER Store (local branches), which won bids in six of the 10 MSAs.
•    There were no bid winners in San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

Standard Power Wheelchairs, Scooters and Related Accessories
•    On average, 16 providers per MSA won bids in this category, with the most providers winning in Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas (29) and Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach, Fla. (19).
•    The big winners across MSAs were Source One Medical (Irvine, CA), which won bids in six of the 10 MSAs; National Seating & Mobility (local branches), which won bids in five of the 10 MSAs; ATG Designing Mobility (Cerritos, Calif.), which won bids in four of the 10 MSAs; Cardiosom (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; Carmel, Ind.; West Chester, Ohio), which won bids in seven of the 10 MSAs; and Hoveround (Sarasota, Fla.), which won bids in four of the 10 MSAs.
•    The SCOOTER Store won bids in only 2 MSAs: Cincinnati-Middletown, Ohio-Ky.-Ind. and Kansas City, Mo.-Kansas.

Walkers and Related Accessories
•    On average, 17 providers per MSA won bids in this category, with the most providers winning in Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach, Fla. (27) and Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas (24).
•    The big winners across MSAs were Grove Medical (Greenville, S.C.), which won bids in seven of the 10 MSAs; Lynncore Med Group (Sherman, Texas), which won bids in four of the 10 MSAs; and The SCOOTER Store (local branches), which won bids in four of the 10 MSAs.

Mail-Order Diabetic Supplies
•    On average, 12 providers per MSA won bids in this category, with the most providers winning in Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach, Fla. (18), Cincinnati-Middletown, Ohio-KY-IN (15) and Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas (15).
•    The big winners across MSAs were All States Medical Supply (Arden, N.C.), which won bids in all 10 MSAs; Cardiocom (Chanhassen, Minn.), which won bids in all 10 MSAs; Discount Diabetic (Phoenix, Ariz.), which won bids in all 10 MSAs; Doctor Diabetic Supply (Miami, Fla.), which won bids in all 10 MSAs; The Home Health Store of Tomball (Tomball, Texas), which won bids in all 10 MSAs; B and H Medical (Livonia, Mich.), which won bids in nine of the 10 MSAs; All Med Services of Florida (Miami Lakes, Fla.), which won bids in eight of the 10 MSAs; R and T Medical (Port Saint Lucie, Fla.), which won bids in eight of the 10 MSAs; Medical & Diabetic Supplies (Jupiter, Fla.), which won bids in six of the 10 MSAs; Home Care Delivered (Glen Allen, Va.), which won bids in five of the 10 MSAs; and Abelcare Medical (Cincinnati, Ohio), Excel Respiratory Solutions (Winter Have, Fla.) and RX Stat (St. Petersburg, Fla.), which each won bids in four of the 10 MSAs.
•    A core group of providers won in nearly all MSAs, with only a small number of local providers awarded contracts per MSA.

Support Surfaces (group 2 mattresses and overlays; Miami only)
•    All bid winners were based in Florida except Hill-Rom, based in Raleigh, N.C.
•    The SCOOTER Store (Boca Raton, Casselberry, Jacksonville, Orlando, Fla.) won a bid in this category.
