The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has published Medicare/Medicaid resources and flexibilities in the wake of Hurricane Milton, which triggered a public health emergency (PHE) in Florida this week.
In its Oct. 10 MLN Connects newsletter, CMS said Department of Health & Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra declared the PHE on Oct. 8, retroactive to Oct. 5. “CMS is working closely with the state and federal partners to put these flexibilities in place to ensure those affected by this natural disaster have access to the care they need — when they need it most,” the MLN article said.
The Current Emergencies web page includes hurricane-related information, including waiver findings, instructions on applying for an 1135 waiver or PHE inquiry, and special enrollment periods for those impacted by Hurricane Milton.
The page also includes information on Hurricane Helene, with resulted in PHEs being declared in South Carolina and Tennessee in late September.
The news announcement page provides additional Milton-related information.
