myCGS 8.5 Now Available
CGS Administrators has rolled out myCGS 8.5, which the Jurisdiction B and C DME MAC says includes “improvements to prior authorization status and same/similar, while also fixing several known issues.”
Prior authorization status now includes a chart that shows the maximum number of days allowed to process a prior authorization request according to the equipment category: lower limb prosthetics, orthoses, power mobility devices or pressure-reducing support surfaces.
The occasional duplication of hospice information has been corrected, and the drop-down menu for expedited power mobility devices in the prior authorization Smart Submission section was also fixed.
DME MACs Issue Power Wheelchair Electronics Clarification
The Medicare DME MACs have issued a power wheelchair electronics clarification.
The bulletin, issued May 30, referenced “confusion regarding the billing of wheelchair electronics.” The clarification “provides instructions on appropriate billing of power wheelchair electronics, such as motors, controllers, harnesses and interfaces.”
One of the examples in the bulletin involved E1002 (power seating system, tilt only) being added to a power chair.
“A power tilt system uses one power seating motor/actuator,” the bulletin said. “When two power seating functions/actuators/motors are provided, one unit of E2311 (electronic connection between wheelchair controller and two or more power seating system motors) is allowed. An expandable controller (E2377) and harness (E2313) are not allowed in this situation unless a specialty interface is used.”
Other examples include clarifications on HCPCS codes E1006, E1008, E2310, E2311, E2313, and E2377. View the bulletin on the CGS Administrators website.
