As soon as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a June 1 interim final rule outlining new work requirements for Medicaid beneficiaries, patient organizations announced concerns that documentation to prove and maintain Medicaid eligibility could be a very heavy burden for states, patients and caregivers.
Even before the interim final rule came out, Aeroflow Urology — a provider of incontinence supplies and a subsidiary of Aeroflow Health — was preparing for Medicaid changes that could impact their patients and the learning curve sure to follow.
“As Medicaid programs move toward incorporating work requirements, with some states like Nebraska leading the way as early as May 2026, all stakeholders are entering a significant period of adjustment,” said Mica Phillips, Aeroflow Urology’s executive vice president. “Many patients may be unaware of upcoming changes to their Medicaid plans. With this in mind, our team is working to ensure that our patients stay informed and continue to receive the essential healthcare they need.”
Phillips said the company took a proactive approach, implementing a strategy “that prioritizes both technological adaptability and human expertise. Our team stays informed on policy updates so we can remain at the forefront of Medicaid changes. This internal expertise allows us to serve as proactive advocates, guiding patients through critical next steps and helping them navigate coverage uncertainties with confidence.”
Aeroflow Urology’s extensive library of expert-led state Medicaid blogs — which Phillips said are “meticulously updated on a state-by-state basis to reflect the latest regulatory changes” — help patients and caregivers stay informed and prepared, regardless of where they live.
“This localized approach provides patients with a personalized roadmap for understanding their specific coverage requirements, reducing confusion and making the process easier to manage,” Phillips said. “We also emphasize that the two most important actions patients can take are regularly checking their physical mail for state redetermination packets and contacting their Medicaid plan or caseworker directly to confirm their eligibility status.”
Ultimately, the supplier’s goal is to provide exceptional care while “maintaining uninterrupted access to essential medical supplies for those who need them most.”
Educational outreach for stakeholders
Aeroflow Urology is using digital outreach specifically designed for a range of stakeholders, from patients to providers and referral sources.
“For patients, we use email campaigns, educational blog content, and social media posts to share reminders about renewal deadlines, required documentation, and steps they can take to maintain coverage,” Phillips said. “These digital touchpoints provide timely, easy-to-understand guidance that helps patients stay informed and avoid interruptions in access to essential urological supplies.
“We also work closely with providers and referral partners by sharing policy updates, educational resources and patient-readiness reminders they can use during care conversations. This ensures that healthcare partners have the information they need to reinforce key next steps and better support patients through the Medicaid renewal process.”
The supplier’s top priority, Phillips added is to ensure patients receive essential bladder control supplies without interruptions
“Because continued eligibility is necessary to maintain access to these products, it is especially important that patients are aware of renewal requirements and complete any needed steps on time,” Phillips said. “One of the biggest challenges is making sure patients receive and understand important renewal information so there are no delays in coverage that could impact their access to supplies. Clear communication and timely support are key to helping patients stay on track and avoid unnecessary disruptions.”
Employees are also equipped “with updated information so they can offer timely guidance, and monitoring eligibility closely to help prevent interruptions before they happen,” Phillips added. “We are also working closely with providers and referral partners so they can reinforce these reminders and support patients throughout the renewal process.”
A message of reassurance
Phillips also acknowledged the upheaval that policy changes and eligibility requirements can cause. Any breaks to a daily care routine can of course be stressful for patients and caregivers.
“Aeroflow’s overall message is one of reassurance, partnership and proactive support,” Phillips said. “While the upcoming Medicaid work requirements are a new step within the process, Aeroflow is committed to making the transition as seamless as possible for the patients and providers who rely on uninterrupted access to essential medical supplies.
“We understand that insurance, especially changes to insurance coverage, can be confusing. As a part of our mission, our team is actively preparing resources, communications, and support systems to guide patients through any new eligibility or documentation requirements.”
And to reassure referral sources as well, Phillips said, “We remain a dependable partner in protecting continuity of care. Our team is monitoring policy developments closely, adapting workflows as needed, and equipping provider partners with the information necessary to support our patients throughout the process.
“We know that changes to Medicaid requirements can create confusion for both patients and providers, especially when access to medically necessary supplies is at stake. Our priority is to reduce that burden. We are preparing every step of the way so that our patients feel supported and our referral partners feel confident that we are managing these changes responsibly.”
