National mobility provider Numotion has reached an agreement with the United States Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Kentucky to settle a lawsuit stemming from claims related to reimbursement payments for mobility equipment.
Under the agreement, which the Office of Inspector General for Health and Human Services also signed, Numotion will pay $7 million dollars to resolve allegations that Numotion said focused mainly on “a complicated set of Medicaid billing regulations” that the company believed it had interpreted correctly.
In a public statement, Numotion underscored that it has cooperated fully with the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky over the course of the matter.
“Numotion is committed to cooperating with external investigations as well as fulfilling our responsibility to submit self-disclosures where appropriate,” said Mike Swinford, Numotion’s CEO. “We are proud of the work we do helping our customers lead active and independent lives, and we are dedicated to supporting them with medically necessary products and services. Putting this matter behind us ensures we can direct all our attention on our mission.”
The settlement was reached without any admission of liability, and there was no indication that any of the equipment that Numotion provided was not reasonable and medically necessary.
As part of this settlement, Numotion also entered into a Corporate Integrity Agreement with HHS OIG, under which the company will implement specific corporate compliance obligations that complement its existing compliance program, which it said is “extensive and robust.”
