Rep. Hinson Visits VGM
New lawmaker serving Iowa's first district meets with VGM leadership as well as VGM Government relations team.
Recently elected Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa), who is representing Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Cedar Falls, and Dubuque in the 117th Congress, visited the main campus of VGM & Associates this week, where she met with the organization’s leadership and VGM Government Relations team.
Wearing masks and socially distancing, the VGM team and Rep. Hinson discussed HME stakeholder concerns, such as decreased reimbursement rates and regulatory burdens.
“The discussion was constructive, and both parties were committed to building a collaborative relationship for the good of Iowans, providers, and the constituents in her district,” an update from VGM Government Relations reported.
Assigned to the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. Hinson will play an important role in passing legislation.
VGM Government Relations noted that the Hinson meeting was the first of many to come with the 117th Congress’s freshmen lawmakers, and that it would be working with VGM members and state associations to arrange meetings with newly elected members of Congress.
“Building these relationships with members of Congress must be done proactively instead of reactively,” the VGM statement read. “We must educate them on our issues and establish relationships with their offices prior to reaching out asking them to sign on to legislation.”
