Hart Medical Equipment Acquires McLaren Home Medical Equipment

Acquisition helps Hart expand coverage in Michigan, while leveraging additional scale to benefit its partners, referrals and customers

Michigan HME provider Hart Medical Equipment has acquired McLaren Home Medical Equipment (MHM), formerly known as VitalCare.

MHM has locations in Cheboygan, Gaylord, and Petoskey in northern Michigan, which should further Hart’s plans to expand its geographic coverage so that it can leverage that additional scale to help its partners, referrals and customers.

“Hart concentrates on patient outcomes, integrative technologies, timely delivery, and customer satisfaction, which has helped build trust within our communities,” Hart President Allen Hunt said. “We look forward to bringing Hart’s focus on continuity of care, reduced readmissions, and long-term patient outcomes to the northern Michigan community.”

In addition to the expansion, Hart has also pursued new technology and new services, as well as streamlined how it works with health systems:

  • To help address the 2020 COVID-19 crisis, Hart introduced TeleHart, a live streaming training service, educating customers remotely on CPAP/BiPAP, oxygen, glucometers, and nebulizers from the safety of their homes.
  • The company also added new products such as ventilators, cough assists, percussive vests, speech-generating devices, diabetic continuous glucose monitors (CGM), insulin pumps, as well as the ability to order medical supplies and shop on its enhanced e-commerce website, hartmedical.org.
  • Hart works with various health systems, ACOs, PHOs, and other physician groups and has streamlined universal processes to create consistent deliverables while each system’s needs.
  • To address increasing documentation requirements by payers, Hart has continued to implement process and communication improvements to ease referrals for physicians, case management, social work, and health systems.
