Similar to the industry’s effort to call on federal officials to make DMEPOS suppliers a priority in the Phase 1 Distribution of COVID-19 vaccine, VGM Government Relations posted a statement calling for similar action at the state level.
The organization urged HME stakeholders to contact their governor’s office, asking them to make HME providers a priority when it comes to the distribution of vaccines and PPE due to their work as front-line healthcare personnel and their regular contact with patients in the home setting.
“It is crucial that HME suppliers and their staff also be protected so they can continue to care for the sick during this time. Patients healing at home is more important than ever right now,” the VGM statement read. “Allowing patients to heal in the comfort of their own home limits the number of people they come in contact with, opens up hospital bed availability for severe COVID-19 cases, and saves millions of dollars when calculating the cost of a hospital stay.”
To help providers send a message to their governor, providers can use this web form to enter some information to generate their message — which can be customized — and send it to their governor’s office.
