Taking Leadership During COVID-19

Gary Sheehan of sleep therapy provider Cape Medical Supply's discusses how his business has prepared for COVID-19 in terms of staff protection, patient care, teleworking, management and operations.

The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting the HME industry in a big way, and Gary Sheehan, MBA, president and CEO of Cape Medical Supply, acted fast to prepare his business in terms of staff protection, patient care, teleworking, and operations. Sheehan took some time to discuss the measures Cape Medical Supply has implemented and what other providers can do, as well.

In the a recent episode of the HME Business Podcast, Sheehan notes that, before COVID-19 made a significant impact on U.S. shores, his business began studying the pandemic and shaping the steps it would take. Moreover, he explains why the preparations providers are making aren’t just to keep their businesses running, but because HME providers are on the front lines of the national healthcare response to the disease.

“This is a galvanizing moment for our industry,” Sheehan notes in the interview. “If we react the way that we can, and that we should, then we will retain a vital component of the healthcare supply chain. If we don’t take action, we stand to put our patients at risk, our team members at risk, and miss an opportunity to provide valued service to an acute care system that is about to come under unprecedented pressure. This is the once-in-a-generation moment that we need to prepare ourselves for.”
