HME Groups: Congressional Recess Ideal Time to Advance Industry Issues

AAHomecare and VGM Government relations are providing online resources to help facilitate the advocacy.

With both chambers of Congress entering summer recess during August, lawmakers will be in their districts, and the American Association for Homecare and VGM Government Relations are urging providers to use this opportunity to meet with members of Congress and staff to advance the industry’s agenda.

The House of Representatives entering summer recess on July 26 and the Senate leaving Aug. 2, and lawmakers will be in their districts until Sept. 9

Key priorities include rural reimbursement relief, fixing the oxygen “double dip,” protecting access to CRT, and keeping ventilators out of the bidding program. Details on the agenda item are available on web pages from both AAHomecare and VGM Government Relations. To find your lawmaker, visit AAHomecare’s Congressional directory.

VGM highlighted the fact that federal and state elected officials will be attending the same events and town halls.

“This makes attending town halls a wonderful use of your time and resources,” a statement from VGM read. “Visit your federal and state legislators’ websites or call their offices to find out where and when they will be holding town halls or other local events.”

Regardless of what meetings providers have with lawmakers, AAHomecare urged advocates to use social media to publicize their meetings with pictures and to thank legislators on social media. The association requested that providers email Tilly Gambill at tillyg@aahomecare.org to let her know about any posts made to Twitter or Facebook.
