While the 116th Congress will adjourn in mid-December, there is still time to push for passage of H.R. 3730, and recent developments along with provider advocacy could help that effort, according to the National Coalition for Assistive and Rehab Technology (NCART).
The bill, introduced into the House by Reps. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) and John Larson (D-Conn.), would stop CMS from using competitive bidding-derived reimbursement for accessories used with manual CRT wheelchairs.
To date, the bill has picked up 122 co-sponsors, and recent events could magnify that support. Last week, the ITEM Coalition sent a letter to Congress that urges lawmakers to pass H.R. 3730 before the end of the year.
Also, NCART Executive Director Don Clayback notes that discussions with key lawmakers are continuing on the Hill, creating a solid opportunity for providers to give one last push to advocate on behalf of the nascent legislation.
“… We know H.R. 3730 is being discussed on Capitol Hill this week,” he said. “Now is the perfect time to reach back out to your Representative to reinforce your request that action be taken on the bill.”
Clayback says providers can visit www.protectmymobility.org to send an email or place a phone call to ask their Representative to speak committee and party leadership to pass H.R. 3730 before Congress adjourns.
