VGM Launches Map Tool for Finding Reimbursement Lines

The online map helps suppliers easily determine where competitive bidding areas begin and end.

To help suppliers determine where CMS has deemed rural, non-rural and competitive bidding areas, VGM has created an interactive online map, easily categorized by a supplier’s ZIP code.

The map helps suppliers explore new territory, find where a patient resides, locate critical access hospitals, and determine where competitive bidding area lines have been drawn.

It’s an important consideration now that CMS’s proposed ESRD rule will let beneficiaries get HME items from any Medicare-enrolled DMEPOS provider from Jan. 1, 2019 until new contracts are awarded for the next round of the bidding program (a move made to address the pending lapse in competitive bidding contracts that end after Dec. 31).

John Gallagher, vice president of VGM Government Relations explained that, “with the proposed changes coming down from CMS excluding relief from the non-bid areas and opening up competitive bidding areas to any willing provider, it is important that providers understand what they will be reimbursed and where those lines fall on a map.”

Compiled from multiple public sources, the map is separated into four categories: Rural (Green), Non-Rural (Yellow), Round 1 CBA (Blue) and Round 2 Recompete CBA (Orange). ZIP codes in each state are categorized to its corresponding color category, so suppliers can either search by specific address to find their color category or explore an area by clicking any ZIP Code Tabulation Area to see the ZIP code and category.
