Calif. Provider Meets with Rep. Denham and CMS’s VERMA

Home Oxygen Company discusses industry challenges with lawmaker and CMS administrator.

U.S. Representative Jeff Denham recently invited members of California-based Home Oxygen Company to participate in a small group meeting with Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Seema Verma. The goal: Discuss the challenges of rural providers in California.

Home Oxygen Company, located in California’s Central Valley, serves a large rural population made up of non-bid communities and competitive bidding MSAs.

“We appreciate Representative Denham’s staff to include Home Oxygen Company in this very special meeting,” said Andrea Ewert, President and CEO of Home Oxygen Company, “Administrator Verma was very attentive to our needs and knowledgeable of our challenges. We are grateful both Administrator Verma and Representative Denham took the time to hear first-hand how our industry is crumbling and willing to take action to correct it.”

Ewert said she and her company representatives articulated the challenges of running a business and serving Medicare beneficiaries in a financially compressed market.

“Administrator Verma acknowledged the challenges we face and indicated there would be happier times ahead,” said Ewert.

Representative Denham has signed on to House Bill 4229 as a co-sponsor and recognizes the need for change in reimbursement policy.
