CMS’s Center for Program Integrity (CPI) will host a March 16 Open Door Forum covering the prior authorization process for power wheelchair codes K0856 and K0861.
CMS will launch the new prior authorization process for these codes in Illinois, Missouri, New York and West Virginia for items furnished on or after March 20. The agency will then take the process nationwide in July.
“We will outline the process for submitting a prior authorization request to the designated Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC), the timeframes for the MAC to render their prior authorization decisions, and the process for subsequent claim submissions,” an announcement from the CPI reads. “Participants will be encouraged to submit questions or provide feedback that may be incorporated into our supporting documents, such as the frequently asked questions document or the operational guide.”
The call will run from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time on March. The participant dial-in number is (800) 837-1935 and the conference ID no. is 85144406. TTY communications relay services are available for the hearing impaired by dialing 711 or (800) 855-2880. A transcript and audio recording of the ODF will be posted to the Special Open Door Forum website for downloading.
