Cellular data Sleep and oxygen equipment maker ResMed plans to bring cloud connectivity and its AirView remote patient monitoring software to its Astral in-home life support ventilators.
Cellular data connectivity will let physicians and HME providers access patient data in the cloud to better manage and improve the care of the thousands of patients relying on Astral life support ventilators at home. Currently, more than 2.5 million patients are monitored through the HIPAA-compliant AirView system.
“Cloud connectivity is a major factor in the future of healthcare,” said Raj Sodhi, ResMed president of Healthcare Informatics. “We’ve seen the great impact that ResMed’s AirView has had on patient outcomes and business efficiencies related to managing sleep apnea and other respiratory conditions.
“This technology will bring the same benefits to those patients who rely on home life support and have other respiratory needs, as well,” he added. “We’re also looking to connect Inova Labs’ portable oxygen concentrators after acquiring that company earlier this year.”
ResMed’s Astral life support ventilators help patients suffering from neuromuscular disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and other adult and pediatric respiratory disorders. Select customers are currently piloting cloud connectivity on Astral devices, and the capability is expected to be generally available later this year.
