Medtrade Fixes Sights on Cash Sales Opportunities

October event will host a on-floor Retail Design Center and new retail product award program.

Retail sales will be a highlight at Medtrade 2013, slated for Oct. 8-10 at Orlando, Fla.’s Orange County Convention Center. The expo will feature an expanded and improved Retail Design Center that will let attendees walk through displays in order to better understand how an effective showroom can boost sales, as well as a new award program.

As part of the Innovative HME Retail Product Awards, a panel of experts will recognize HME products that are particularly suited helping providers boost their bottom lines though cash sales. Products will be judged on functionality; quality and durability; aesthetics andstyle; environmental sustainability; ease of retail set-up; and pricing.

Five products will be chosen as winners and featured in a retail products roundtable conference session called The Best New HME Retail/Cash Opportunities, moderated by Jim Greatorex, owner of Black Bear Medical in Portland, Maine, on Oct. 9, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Winning manufacturers will be allotted roughly five minutes to discuss their product with the audience. Those winning products will also be featured in a window display in the Medtrade Retail Design Center.

“I, and many others, go to Medtrade looking for the next great cash opportunity,” Greatorex said. “This year providers will have a chance to expand their business and in some situations be one of the first to promote a product.

Getting down to five products will focus heavily how each entered product can bring value to the provider.

“We will look for products with large potential markets,” Greatorex explained. “Perhaps a new diabetic product where the demographic is sizable. Manufacturers also have to tell us about their direct-to-consumer marketing plan, because if they are not going to be part of the marketing process in helping drive awareness, the chances of success are diminished.”
