Asante Solutions Appoints New Sales VP

Diabetes device maker Asante Solutions added Rick Philbin as vice president of sales.

Philbin comes to Asante with more than 20 years’ experience. Prior to joining Asante, Philbin was a field sales director for Animas, a division of Johnson & Johnson, and manufacturer of the One Touch Ping brand insulin pump.

“We are pleased that Rick is joining Asante as we prepare to enter the U.S. market with the launch of the Pearl Insulin Pump,” said David Thrower, Asante’s president and CEO. “Rick is an accomplished and recognized sales leader in the insulin pump category as well as a proven community leader, educator and speaker on diabetes topics. He has more than 20 years of progressive achievements, from hands-on sales representation to regional and area sales management.”

Also, for more than 15 years, Rick has been deeply involved in diabetes community organizations such as Children with Diabetes and the Diabetes, Exercise and Sports Association. He has also served as a faculty member and presenter for the Diabetes Core Curriculum Workshop.

Philbin studied athletic training as an undergraduate and has master’s degrees in both education and business administration, specializing in health care management.

“I have had the pleasure of knowing Rick Philbin for the past 12 years,” said Steve Edelman, professor of medicine, UCSD School of Medicine and founder and director of Taking Control of Your Diabetes (TCOYD). “As a leader, he successfully combines his business insight with his compassion for patients with diabetes and the clinicians who serve them. His knowledge of diabetes and the insulin pump market is a great combination, allowing him to provide much needed education regarding the disease state.”
