Adapted Honda Odyssey Begins Production

November 1, 2006 by HME Business

Phoenix-based Vantage Mobility International (VMI) began shipping the first in its line of adapted Honda Odyssey minivans Oct. 10 after a two-year negotiation with Honda.

“The Odyssey has always been a very popular minivan, but it’s never been made accessible,” says Doug Eaton, president and CEO of VMI.

The lowered floor side-entry minivan conversion offers roomy interior for maximum wheelchair maneuverability and a floor lowered by 11 inches to enhance the driver’s line of sight and provide generous headroom.

Other standard features on the adapted Honda Odyssey include a powered in-floor ramp with non-skid surface for unrestricted entry and exit. The PowerKneelâ„¢ System automatically and gently lowers the vehicle to decrease ramp incline and increase accessibility. The low 8-degree ramp angle provides nearly effortless entry and the shorter ramp length allows for parking in tighter places.

The Honda Odyssey, which joins Toyota in the import segment of the market, has earned many automotive awards, including the IntelliChoice “Best Overall Van Value of the Year” and “Best Overall Minivan of the Year.”

Limited production began in July; full production of the adapted line is expected in December. For more information, visit www.vantagemobility.com.
