The American Association for Homecare will host a Nov. 19 conference designed to help providers understand the PECOS program, how to identify warnings and how to prevent claim rejections after the Jan. 4 PECOS deadline.
The conference, “From Warnings to Rejections, PECOS Edits are Currently Affecting 20 Percent to 60 Percent of DME Claims,” will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Easter Time. Speaker Andrea Stark of MiraVista, LLC will cover a variety of topics:
- What the PECOS database is and how it has been developed.
- Why DME MACs are utilizing PECOS to edit claims.
- How claims are edited using PECOS.
- Where to look for rejection/warning messages.
- How to determine if your physicians are enrolled in PECOS.
- What tools are available to help you educate your physicians.
- What steps can be taken to prevent claim rejections on Jan. 4, 2010.
HME providers were largely taken by surprise last month when they began receiving warnings that DME claims referred by physicians not registered in the PECOS system would no longer be approved by Medicare if the physicians did not register in the PECOS system by Jan. 4, 2010 (click here to read more).
Interested providers can participate in the Nov. 19 teleconference by completing an online form (click here for the form) and return it with a member registration fee of $129, or non-member registration fee $189, per phone line by Wednesday, Nov. 18, to Kim Kianka, AAHomecare, 2011 Crystal Drive, #725, Arlington, VA 22202, 703-535-1887 or fax to 703-836-6730. After submitting registration, providers will receive instructions on connecting to the call as well as any handouts or additional information by e-mail. AAHomecare asks that participants submit any questions in advance to [email protected] by Nov. 18.
