The Oklahoma legislature has passed H.B. 1262, a bill that exempts home medical equipment transactions from sales tax, which ranges between 9.3 to 10.5 percent, according to VGM Government Relations.
The state House of Representatives passed the bill with 99 yes votes and zero no votes, and the Oklahoma Senate passed the bill with 43 in favor and zero opposed.
The bill is now on its way to Gov. Kevin Stitt, who is expected to sign the legislation into law. If approved, H.B. 1262 would go into effect July 1.
The Oklahoma Medical Equipment Providers Association (OMEPA) worked to develop and advance the legislation in concert with House author Rep. Kyle Hilbert and co-author Rep. Justin Humphrey, as well as principal Senate author Sen. James Leewright.
“It’s been a fantastic day for the DME industry and for the citizens of Oklahoma,” said Larry Dalton, president of OMEPA and COO at Advanced Care Medical Equipment. “This bill will save the citizens money. This is a history-making day that we will not forget.”
