In his second bid for Congress. Dan Meuser, a former executive at Pride Mobility Products Corp. and brother to current Pride Chairman and CEO Scott Meuser, has won the Republican nomination to represent Pennsylvania’s recently redrawn 9th District.
The seat was left open after Rep. Lou Barletta’s (R-Pa.) decided to run for the Senate against Democrat Bob Casey. Barletta encouraged Meuser to run for his spot.
Meuser will now face former Pennsylvania agriculture secretary Democrat Denny Wolff in the state’s November election.
“This was a hard fought election and I have to thank our countless volunteers and supporters, all the elected officials, grassroots organizations like M.A.G. [the Making America Great PAC] and our campaign team for their tireless dedication to our campaign,” Meuser said after announcing his victory. “Campaigning is a WE effort and tonight’s results prove that.”
Meuser left a 20-year career at Pride in 2008 to take his first stab at running for Congress, but was defeated in the primaries. In 2011, then Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett nominated him to serve as Pennsylvania’s Revenue Secretary.
In that capacity, Meuser put in place efficiency- and service-oriented policies that the Council on State Taxation recognized as having the most dramatic improvement of any revenue department in the country, going from a D rating to an A- rating, the largest improvement of any department for the year.
