Members of the American Association for Homecare instructed DME MAC and PDAC staff on manual, power, and CRT wheelchairs and accessories at a special educational session held last week in Fargo, N.D.
The event included Kim Brummett, vice president of regulatory affairs for AAHomecare, and representatives from mobility device manufacturers who are AAHomecare member companies. Roughly 35 DME MAC and PDAC staff attended, with responsibilities for audits, coding and claims analysis.
The event aimed to help the attendees better understand mobility devices and get answers to any questions they night have so that they don’t have any confusion or unresolved questions when working on mobility device claims or coding.
To assist in that endeavor ATPs and manufacturer representatives were on hand to answer questions. Education stations set up at the event included manual (staffed by Invacare), standard power (Hoveround), CRT (Pride Mobility), and accessories (Permobil). The stations helped demonstrate how patients used the equipment and provided hands-on experience.
“This session was a great example of how the HME sector and Medicare contractors can work together to improve audit and review processes,” Brummett said. “I really appreciate Noridian for allowing us this opportunity, and I want to thank the attendees for their high level of engagement throughout the day. I also want to thank our member company representatives for bringing both their expertise and equipment to the event.”
