The University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology (RST) presented medals to 12 industry advocates during a reception at the 2017 International Seating Symposium in Nashville, Tenn.
The Reach of RST reception honored individuals who have supported the University of Pittsburgh’s RST department or have contributed to the advancement of the CRT industry.
One of the industry advocates who received a medal was Greg Packer, president of U.S. Rehab. U.S. Rehab and the University of Pittsburgh’s RST department have been collaborating for the past two years on the Functional Mobility Assessment outcomes tool.
Other medal recipients included Geoff Bardsley, Don Clayback, Silva Contepomi, Carmen DiGiovine, Chapel Khansnabis, Jean Minkel, Sabastian Salice, Nigel Shapcott, Peter Van de Vliet, Jue Wang and Bill Weninger.
Mark Schmeler, director of the continuing education program and assistant professor of the RST department at the University of Pittsburgh praised the recipients. “These industry advocates dedicate themselves and their resources to protect our industry and the patients we serve,” he said.
The University of Pittsburgh hosted this year’s symposium, as it does biennially. Reception attendees included current RST students from the university, as well as faculty, alumni staff and friends.
This year, the International Seating Symposium welcomed approximately 2,400 attendees from more than 30 countries, all 50 states and eight Canadian provinces.
Next year, the 34th annual event will be held on March 6 to 9, 2018 in Vancouver, Canada.
