HME industry veteran Steve Ackerman, president and CEO of Spectrum Medical Inc. (Silver Springs, Md.) has joined the American Association for Homecare’s Executive Committee as the organization’s treasurer.
Alan Landauer, chairman of Landauer Metropolitan Inc. (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) has has stepped down from the association’s treasurer position, but will remain a member of the AAHomecare Board of Directors.
“Alan is well-known for his commitment to the homecare community,” said AAHomecare President and CEO Tom Ryan. “After years of tireless service on the AAHomecare Board and Councils, Alan is ready to get others involved and bring new leadership up from the ranks. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of caring that is a hallmark of great leaders.”
Working in the industry for 33 years, Ackerman founded Spectrum Medical in 1983 to serve patients the Washington, D.C. metro area. In that time, he has served in various capacities for state and national trade associations and has been called before Congress and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as an expert on industry issues.
Ackerman, who sits on the HME Business Editorial Advisory Board, said he hopes to see AAHomecare continue to work more collaboratively with CMS to resolve issues the industry has with the agency.
“We have a common mission, which is quality care for our seniors,” Ackerman said. “Our industry has learned how difficult and time consuming it is to effect change at the legislative level. Tom Ryan and his team have done a superb job getting this started with Laurence Wilson and his staff.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the industry as Treasurer of the Board of Trustees,” he added. “I appreciate the confidence the Board has placed in me with this appointment and look forward to working with Robert Steedley and the rest of the leadership team.”
